About the International BBQ Planning Committee

The International BBQ Planning Committee was formed in Porto in April 2015. The evening had begun with a very convivial conference dinner (for the annual COAR conference) on a boat on the river Douro, and some of the participants (including the current membership of the committee) had repaired to a bar in town. Conversation turned, naturally, to the planning a meet-up at the next year’s conference in Vienna. It was decided that a BBQ was the obvious thing to do, and so we started to plan it.

It turns out that planning BBQs with friends in bars in European cities is great fun and a very productive use of time. It may be that this is more fun than actually having a BBQ. The Committee has no official view on this matter since it does not do BBQs - it only plans them.

The Committee uses “BBQ” rather than “barbecue” throughout its communications and committee work, because its members are all information professionals and like three-letter-acronyms (TLAs).

The current membership of the committee is:

  • Paolo Budroni
  • Gultekin Gurdal
  • Ilkay Holt
  • Barbara Sanchez
  • Paul Walk
